Government says it will next week launch a new HIV prevention drug for women known as the Dapivirine Vaginal Ring (DVR).
Ministry of Health Director in charge of Infectious Diseases, Professor Lloyd Mulenga, explained that the initiative is part of government’s interventions aimed at reducing new HIV infections by 2030.
Professor Mulenga shared this with ZNBC News on the sidelines of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation–Ministry of Health high-level strategic collaboration meeting.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Kennedy Lishimpi called for strengthened partnerships to help Zambia reach epidemic control and eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
At the same event, AIDS Healthcare Foundation Zambia Country Director Webster Chewe revealed that the foundation has commenced the bidding process for the construction of a new Masala Clinic in Ndola, which will specialize in HIV services.
