Livingstone Mayor Constance Muleabai has urged real estate agents to take an active role in promoting responsible land management.
Ms. Muleabai said the local authority is concerned about the growing trend of developers cutting down trees on new plots. She revealed that the council has introduced a 750 kwacha penalty for cutting trees without authorization.
The Mayor was speaking in Livingstone during a tree planting exercise at St. Mary’s Secondary School, organized by the Zambia Institute of Estate Agents (ZIEA) ahead of the National Land Conference.
ZIEA President Nalukui Muwindwa said the initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to environmental protection and community engagement.
Meanwhile, National Land Conference Committee Chairperson Raphael Thole said the real estate sector is ready to champion sustainable land use.
