Management at Levy Mwanawasa Medical University has raised concern over alleged criminal attacks targeting students in boarding houses around Mtendere, PHI, and nearby areas, saying the incidents have reached alarming levels averaging about two cases per week.

The university says the situation has created fear and distress among students.

Public Relations Officer Tazzie Chayinda said management is working with the police, the Ministry of Gender, property owners, and other stakeholders to address the problem.

Mr. Chayinda added that government has been engaged to construct 5,000 modern on-campus accommodation units as a long-term solution under the 2026–2030 strategic plan.

Meanwhile, Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the rape cases that have occurred.
