President Hakainde Hichilema has commissioned the Hakainde Hichilema Mini Hospital in Mongu District.
The Hakainde Hichilema Mini Hospital has been built using the first family’s resources as a gift to the people, in honour of an incident that occurred in April 2017 on the Mongu-Limulunga Road.
President Hichilema, then an opposition leader, was travelling to Limulunga during the Kuomboka Ceremony when he was arrested and later charged with treason -that saw him spend 127 days in prison before the charges were eventually dropped.
The President says he constructed the hospital in memory of the unfortunate incident, noting that the facility stands as a permanent symbol of the hardship he experienced.
President Hichilema has handed over the hospital to the Ministry of Health to run and operate as a public facility for the people.
The President has also asked the Health Minister to do a list of a few other things needed to ensure the facility operates smoothly .
Speaking at the same event, Health Minister Alex Katakwe says the Hakainde Hichilema Mini Hospital will contribute to the provision of comprehensive first-level health services to over 16-thousand people.
Dr. Hichilema has also thanked President Hakainde Hichilema for ensuring a consistent supply of medicines in the area, noting that availability levels currently stand at over 86 percent.
