Zambia has called for stronger global cooperation in harnessing science, technology and innovation.
Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet OLIVER KALABO says innovation must deliver practical benefits for all people.
Dr. KALABO says Zambia remains committed, under the Eighth National Development Plan -8NDP, to investing in digital infrastructure, innovation and skills development.
He was speaking during the Ministerial Session of the 11th United Nations Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals.
Meanwhile, President of the Economic and Social Council –ECOSOC- LOK BAHADUR THAPA said science, technology and innovation are essential to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
And Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations CHOLA MILAMBO said innovation must lead to practical and scalable solutions.
Dr. MILAMBO noted that structural barriers such as inequality, limited capacity and financing constraints continue to slow progress.
Meanwhile, Austria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations GREGOR KOESSLER said effective global coordination is necessary to ensure emerging technologies support sustainable development.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC by Zambia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations First Secretary for Press and Public Relations NAMATAMA NJEKWA.
