President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA was this morning among 30 Heads of State who attended the opening of the Africa–France Partnership for Innovation and Growth Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.

The summit aims to reshape Africa–France relations on the basis of mutual interest and shared development goals.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Kenya’s President WILLIAM RUTO said partnerships should not be based on exploitation, but on mutually beneficial cooperation.

President RUTO said Africa and France have an opportunity to build collaborations that promote shared progress and support Africa’s long-term economic transformation.

He said Africa is endowed with vast natural resources and a young, innovative population, adding that the time calls for stronger cooperation built on respect for sovereignty.

French President EMMANUEL MACRON said the African continent should present a united voice in global affairs.

He said France is committed to engaging Africa through an equal partnership that will benefit both sides.

United Nations Secretary-General ANTONIO GUTERRES said Africa remains underrepresented in the global financial architecture, making it difficult for the continent to influence key decisions in sectors such as finance, peace and security.

The 2026 Africa–France Summit has attracted more than 4,000 delegates from 50 African countries, with discussions focusing on strengthening Africa’s voice in global decision-making through transformative partnerships.

The summit is also addressing key areas including digital innovation, sustainable agriculture, health systems and coordinated climate action.
