President HICHILEMA Calls for Responsible Campaigns

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has assured the nation that the General Election set for 13 August will take place in a calm and peaceful environment.

President HICHILEMA has urged all political players to conduct issue-based campaigns.

He has also called on political leaders to focus on matters that affect citizens during the campaign period.

The President says political competition should centre on serving the people.

He has urged politicians to avoid insults and name-calling and instead concentrate on issues that improve people’s lives.

The President says despite belonging to different political parties, Zambians remain one united people.

The Head of State has also appealed to Zambians, particularly the youth, to use social media responsibly throughout the campaign period.

He has cautioned that digital platforms should be used to build the nation and not divide it.

President HICHILEMA says social media is a powerful tool for civic participation but should be used responsibly during the campaign period.

He says the standards of conduct expected on the campaign trail must also apply online.

The President has reminded Zambians that peaceful elections are key to national development after the polls.

He says security agencies have been placed on high alert to safeguard peace before, during and after the general election.

President HICHILEMA says he carries a duty to protect the safety of citizens and their property beyond the election period.

President HICHILEMA, who is Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, says he took an oath to defend and uphold the Constitution.

He adds that all arms and institutions of government will continue operating effectively despite the dissolution of Cabinet and Parliament.

The President has since directed all Permanent Secretaries and controlling officers to ensure uninterrupted service delivery throughout the election period.
