Govt Warns Against ECL Fake AI Video Circulation

By Ruth Chayinda

Government has warned the public against creating, distributing or sharing an alleged artificial intelligence-generated video purportedly showing former President EDGAR LUNGU undergoing a post-mortem examination.

Information and Media Permanent Secretary THABO KAWANA says authorities are aware of individuals allegedly producing and circulating the video in an attempt to provoke emotions and influence the electoral process.

Mr. KAWANA has urged those responsible to consider the feelings of the late former President’s family and close associates, describing the content as distressing and inappropriate.

Commenting on the political environment ahead of the elections, Mr. KAWANA said claims from some quarters that the campaigns appear dull stem from the absence of violence, illicit spending and other activities often linked to the misuse of public resources.

He said the opposition has failed to present a clear message to the electorate and has not offered alternatives to the programmes and services currently being provided by Government.

Mr. KAWANA adds that the prudent management of national resources under the current administration has also contributed to a peaceful political atmosphere.

The Information and Media Permanent Secretary said the peace the country is enjoying is the result of strong and effective leadership.

Mr. KAWANA has further stated that the current electoral period is likely to be among the most peaceful in Zambia’s history.
