The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has issued a public advisory refuting a fabricated video circulating on social media that falsely claims ECZ Chairperson Mrs. Mwangala Zaloumis was arrested for being found with pre‑marked ballot papers.
In the statement published on its facebook page, the Commission clarified that no ballot papers for the 2026 General Election have been printed and that the video is baseless, misleading, and AI‑generated.
ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro says the content is part of a deliberate attempt to undermine public confidence in the electoral process and urged citizens to verify information before sharing, especially given the rise of digitally manipulated content.
He called for caution and reliance on official ECZ communication channels to prevent the spread of misinformation.
