A 61 year old man of Chipangali District, Eastern Province has been arrested for incest after he impregnated his 15 year old daughter who is dumb.
Jackson Nyirenda of Chief Chanje’s area is alleged to have committed the crime on unknown date but in March this year and his daughter is three months pregnant.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba said police received a report from the victim’s mother who divorced the suspect in 2018.
Mr Mweemba said in June last year, the victim became well and was exhibiting signs of mental disturbance prompting her mother to take her for prayers at Mugubudu Trading centre.
He said the victim was made to relocate from her initial place in Madzi-atuba resettlement scheme to Kanjauke village to join the suspect.
Mr Mweemba said in March this year, the victim told her mother, that her father had carnal knowledge of her in the field but she did not take her seriously due to her mental problem.
He said the victims mother confronted her ex husband over the matter but he denied the allegation.
Mr Mweemba said on June 8th this year, the victim’s mother noticed that her daughter appeared pregnant and she reported the matter to Chief Chanje.
He said the suspect admitted having carnal knowledge of the victim when he was probed at the palace and the chief referred the matter to Mugubudu police post.
And Chief Chanje has urged the police to ensure that such people face the full wrath of the law.
He said he will continue working with law enforcement agencies to bring to book perpetrators of such offences.
