Police Form Task Team to Recapture Kapiri Escapees

By Joshua Jere
The Zambia Police has established a dedicated intra-agency task team to intensify operations to trace and recapture 33 inmates that escaped from lawful custody at Kapiri Mposhi Police Station in Central Province on June 13, 2026.
Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi says four of the 33 escaped inmates have been recaptured.
He says in a statement issued in Lusaka today that an immediate investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the escape.
Mr Chilabi has appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and to assist law enforcement by reporting any relevant information to the nearest police station or through established police communication channels.
He also warned that harbouring, concealing, or otherwise assisting any person who has escaped from lawful custody constitutes a criminal offence under the laws of Zambia.
