President Hakainde Hichilema has donated K80,000 to four shop owners in Mongu District whose merchandise was burnt earlier today in the central business district.
The President visited the affected site this evening, expressing sympathy to the shop owners and the proprietor of the building housing the shops.
He said the financial support is an immediate relief measure while investigations into the cause of the fire are being conducted by relevant authorities.
President Hichilema described the incident as unfortunate and stressed the importance of establishing the exact cause of the fire to prevent similar occurrences in future.
During the visit, the Head of State also took time to interact with residents who gathered along the streets of Mongu to catch a glimpse of him.
