An Israeli multidisciplinary medical team is in Zambia to conduct specialized surgeries and training at Choma General Hospital in Southern Province.
The team of five doctors from Tel Aviv‑Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov) was received today at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka by Israel’s Ambassador to Zambia Ofra Farhi.
Ambassador Farhi said this is the first medical delegation hosted by the Israeli Embassy since its reopening in August last year. She explained that the doctors, specialized in gynecology, ophthalmology, general surgery, and pediatrics, will be based at Choma General Hospital for the next three days.
She added that Israel is also supporting heart surgeries for children at the National Heart Hospital and epilepsy research in Eastern Province, noting that the cooperation is part of efforts to strengthen Zambia‑Israel relations following high‑level visits by the two Presidents.
Delegation lead Dr. Ronit Almog said the team will run a health camp offering medical care to children, parents, and grandparents. She noted that the doctors have brought donated medical equipment through the Israeli Embassy and will provide eye examinations, which are not currently available at Choma General Hospital.
