Ituna Partners -the legal team representing Economic and Equity Party Leader Chilufya Tayali says his return to Zambia was conducted in accordance with the law and should not be interpreted as defiance of the country’s legal system.

In a statement issued to ZNBC News, Mr. Chambaila said every procedural step relating to his return was undertaken lawfully and transparently.
He further said criminal matters that had attracted public attention were discontinued following Mr. Tayali’s public apology and his return was made pursuant to those legal developments rather than in defiance of any ongoing criminal proceedings.
Mr Chambaila said on June 25th 2026, Mr. Tayali issued an unreserved public apology to President Hakainde Hichilema , Chief Mukuni, the Bemba-speaking community, the Defence and Security Services, and the Zambian people over remarks he acknowledged were inappropriate and offensive.
He said the apology reflected Mr. Tayali’s acceptance of responsibility and commitment to conduct his public affairs with greater restraint and responsibility.
