The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency – ZAMMSA – says it has restored the supply of essential dialysis materials that will enable kidney patients to continue receiving treatment across the country.
Speaking to ZNBC News, ZAMMSA Senior Manager for Corporate Communications ENOCK LUSOKE said the agency quickly sourced alternative dialysis supplies and worked with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to deliver them to health facilities.
Mr. LUSOKE said the intervention has eased concerns among kidney patients, their families and health workers by ensuring that life-saving treatment continues without disruption.
He said ZAMMSA is also strengthening its planning systems, improving stock management and working closely with stakeholders to prevent future shortages.
Meanwhile, Kidney Foundation of Zambia Secretary General AUGUSTINE MUKUKA has welcomed the improved availability of dialysis supplies, saying patients have seen a more reliable supply in recent months.
However, Mr. MUKUKA has urged Government and suppliers to maintain timely procurement and delivery of the supplies, warning that any delays could put the lives of kidney patients at risk.
He has also encouraged eligible patients to take advantage of the Government’s free kidney transplant programme, describing it as a long-term solution for people living with kidney disease.
