Inspector General of Police GRAPHEL MUSAMBA has ordered the arrest of suspects behind recent incidents of political violence.
Mr. MUSAMBA says commanding officers in Shibuyunji, Livingstone and Luampa districts have been directed to apprehend everyone involved and ensure they are brought before the courts without delay.
The Police Chief says political affiliation will not protect anyone from prosecution, warning that those responsible will face the law.
He says the Zambia Police Service has also launched a review of the police operation in Mongu and Kalabo, where tear smoke was discharged during a Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance campaign rally.
Mr. MUSAMBA told ZNBC News in a statement that the review will determine whether the operation was conducted in line with the law and established policing standards.
He said the inquiry will also examine the conduct of political supporters accused of confronting police officers during the operation.
Mr. MUSAMBA has called on political parties, candidates, supporters and members of the public to remember that peace and security are a shared responsibility as the country heads towards the August 13, 2026 General Election.
He said the Zambia Police Service supports President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’s position that violence, intimidation and lawlessness by any political party, candidate or supporter will not be tolerated.
Mr. MUSAMBA stated that the law will be applied fairly, professionally and impartially, regardless of political affiliation.
He has also dismissed social media claims that someone died during the Mongu incident, saying no death was recorded.
Mr. MUSAMBA has urged the public to rely on official Zambia Police Service communication channels for verified information.
