Copper Queens Coach NORA HAUPTLE has criticised Confederation of African Football –CAF- rules following Zambia’s exit from the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations -WAFCON.
Zambia were eliminated despite beating Malawi 2-1 last night.
The Copper Queens finished level on points with Nigeria and Malawi, with the outcome decided by CAF’s tie-break regulations based on goals scored in the matches involving the tied teams.
The ruling saw Nigeria and Malawi advance after scoring four and three goals respectively, while Zambia managed two.
Speaking after the match, HAUPTLE said it was disappointing for Zambia to be eliminated despite scoring the most goals in the tournament and conceding the fewest.
She said the team had given its best throughout the competition and described the tie-break rules as being at odds with the spirit of the game.
Meanwhile, Copper Queens captain BARBRA BANDA said the team will recover from the setback and come back stronger.
And striker RACHEAL KUNDANANJI said she is proud of the team’s performance despite the early exit.
