Government has urged media organisations to uphold responsible journalism in the run-up to next week’s general election.
Speaking during a media briefing, Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary THABO KAWANA warned that unverified reports and unofficial election results could undermine peace and create unnecessary confusion.
Mr. KAWANA urged journalists and editors to uphold professional ethics by verifying facts, providing balanced coverage and avoiding the publication of misinformation and disinformation.
He said the Electoral Commission of Zambia –ECZ- is the only institution mandated to announce official election results.
Mr. KAWANA also reminded media organisations of their responsibility to promote peace and national unity by exercising restraint and maintaining accuracy in their election coverage.
