The Independent Broadcasting Authority -IBA- has urged broadcasters to exercise utmost accuracy, responsibility and professionalism when covering election results.
IBA Director General WEBSTER MALIDO says while broadcasters may provide updates on the progress of voting, counting and tallying, they should refrain from announcing speculative, projected or unverified results.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka, Mr. MALIDO said election results should only be broadcast once they have been officially announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia – ECZ.
Mr. MALIDO has also called on broadcasters to provide fair and equitable coverage to all political parties and candidates.
He said broadcasters should maintain fairness and impartiality in interviews and news reporting.
