The Electoral Commission of Zambia –ECZ- has revoked, with immediate effect, the accreditation of former Nkana Member of Parliament BINWELL MPUNDU to access the National Results Centre.
The Commission says the decision has been taken in the interest of public safety and security, pursuant to Section 77(6) of the Electoral Process Act and Paragraph 11(1)(c) of the Electoral Code of Conduct.
ECZ Chief Electoral Officer BROWN KASARO explains that the revocation follows a video circulating on social media which the Commission says is attributed to Mr. MPUNDU.
Mr. KASARO says Mr. MPUNDU is alleged to have made threats indicating that he was prepared to kill during the election.
He says statements of this nature are a serious concern as they have the potential to incite violence, create public unrest and undermine the peaceful conduct of the electoral process.
The ECZ Chief Electoral Officer says Mr. MPUNDU was accredited to access the National Results Centre after being nominated by the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity -NRPUP.
Mr. KASARO says the nomination was submitted by the party’s Secretary General in a letter dated July 30, 2026, which introduced nominees for accreditation to the National Results Centre.
He has urged all electoral stakeholders to remain peaceful and comply with the law.
Mr. KASARO has also cautioned stakeholders against making statements, issuing threats or engaging in conduct that could incite violence, cause public unrest or compromise public safety and security.
He has warned that the ECZ will take appropriate action, within the law, against any accredited person whose conduct threatens the integrity, security or peaceful conduct of the electoral process.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC news this evening by Mr. KASARO.
