The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region –ICGLR- has commended Zambia for maintaining a peaceful electoral environment ahead of Thursday’s General Election.
ICGLR Head of Mission MOKGWEETSI MASISI has called on political parties, institutions and citizens to maintain the peace witnessed ahead of polling day.
Mr. MASISI was speaking during the launch of the ICGLR Election Observation Mission in Zambia ahead of the General Election.
He said 100 experts from ICGLR member states have been deployed across all provinces to observe the electoral process.
Mr. MASISI said the observers will monitor polling, counting and the closure of polling stations following a pre-election assessment.
He said the mission is committed to promoting free and fair elections, the rule of law, citizen participation, accountability and transparency.
Mr. MASISI urged all political actors to uphold these principles throughout the electoral process.
