Peter Kapala of the United Party for National Development (UPND) has been elected Member of Parliament for Chifunabuli South Constituency in Chifunabuli District after defeating three rivals in the August 15, 2026 general election.
Mr. Kapala secured 10,496 votes, while his closest challenger, Edward Mpeswe of the NRPUP, polled 5,840 votes.
Returning Officer Penjani Kanyika declared Mr. Kapala duly elected at 16:08 hours.
Mr. Kapala returns to Parliament after serving as a nominated Member of Parliament for five years, during which he held portfolios as Minister of Livestock and Fisheries and later Minister of Energy.
A total of 17,316 ballots were cast, with 551 rejected as invalid.
Speaking after his victory, Mr. Kapala thanked the electorate for their support.
