UPND Media Director Mark Simuuwe says the party has scored significant gains in the 2026 General Elections, with President Hakainde Hichilema maintaining a lead of over 100,000 votes.
Mr. Simuuwe noted that the UPND has made notable improvements across provinces compared to the 2021 elections. He highlighted that the party has increased parliamentary seats in Eastern Province from two to about nine, and now holds six seats in Northern Province.
He said the results demonstrate that the UPND is a growing national party rather than a regional one, citing successes in North Western, Western, and Central Provinces.
Speaking at the National Election Results Centre in Lusaka, Mr. Simuuwe attributed the gains to strengthened party structures. He emphasized the need to adhere to constitutional processes in handling disputes, stressing that all grievances must be addressed through the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
Mr. Simuuwe also raised concern over the rise in propaganda and online defamation, urging citizens not to violate cybersecurity laws. He reminded the public that there is life after elections, warning that illegal behaviour will have legal consequences.
He concluded by reaffirming that the priority remains ensuring the elections are free, fair, and credible.
