Government has started distributing cholera prevention supplies in hot spot areas in Lusaka.
The supplies include Oral Rehydration Salts – ORS – and zinc to ensure households are adequately prepared ahead of the rainy season.
The exercise which is being managed by the Zambia National Public Health Institute – ZNPHI- also targets to reach over 9,000 households with cholera sensitisation over the next 14 days.
Speaking during a door to door sensitization programme in Chilanga district, Dr. SHEMPELA said the programme aims to equip communities with information on how to prevent cholera and respond to the disease.
And ZNPHI National Cholera Coordinator MASUZYO ZYAMBO said the Institute will continue sensitising communities on measures they can take to prevent Cholera.
Dr. ZYAMBO said the activity forms part of Cholera preparedness efforts aimed at ensuring community members are well informed and equipped to reduce the spread of the disease.
