IDC Sets Up Fruit Processing Plant in Katete

The Industrial Development Corporation – IDC – has completed the construction of a new fruit processing plant in Katete District, Eastern Province.

IDC Chief Executive Officer CORNWELL MULEYA says the plant will produce fruit juices and tomato paste for the local market, including supermarkets.

Mr. MULEYA says the investment is expected to increase household incomes and promote financial inclusion among communities in the province and the country at large.

He has told ZNBC news that the plant will create employment opportunities for about two hundred people.

Mr. MULEYA said the plant will also create secondary employment opportunities in other areas such as transportation and distribution.

Mr. MULEYA has since called on farmers in Eastern Province to partner with the IDC by supplying tomatoes and citrus fruits to the plant.

He said increased local supply of raw materials will help sustain production and enhance the benefits of the investment to farmers and communities.
