12 Boreholes Drilled for Irrigation in Gwembe
Government in closer collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme has constructed 12 industrial boreholes to supply three mini irrigation schemes in Gwembe district.
Strengthening Climate Resilience in Agricultural Livelihoods in Agro-ecological regions I and II (SCRALA) Project PATRICK MUCHIMBA says the irrigation schemes will assist farmers affected by drought.
Mr. MUCHIMBA observed that apart from using the water resource for irrigated high value crops, both humans and livestock will benefit from the industrial boreholes constructed in Chief MUNYUMBWE’s area.
He named the three Irrigation sites as Tebe, Uligonkezhya, and Kasonde will soon start operating once all formalities of installing pumps, tank stands, and solar panels.
And Ministry of Agricultural Assistant Director Dr. MALUMO NAWA said the irrigation schemes will be handed over officially to farmers within 2 months.
