20 Kabanana families displaced due to floods

Over 20 families have been displaced by floods in Lusaka’s Kabanana compound after last night’s rains.
Two walls have since collapsed, and many houses have been flooded almost to window level.
A check by ZNBC found several people trying to salvage household furniture, while some women were observed washing blankets and clothes soaked in mud water.
Harriet Lungu, one of the affected residents, says most of her household goods have been damaged.
She says her biggest fear is the probability of another downpour, which would worsen the situation.
The flooding has been attributed to poor drainage systems and illegal structures blocking the flow of water.
