2024 COSAFA U20 WOMEN: Zambia records 3 wins

Zambia has recorded its third straight win at the ongoing Council of Southern Africa Football Associations -COSAFA- Under-20 Women Championship, silencing Botswana 6-nil.
This brings to18 goals the young Copper Queens have scored in three matches.
Fresh from walloping Lesotho 9-nil in their opening match and beating hosts South Africa 3-nil, the team was yet again in no compromising mood this afternoon, netting six goals past Botswana.
JACQUELINE NAMBEYE put the team in command as early as the first minute before SALIYA MWANZA doubled the lead in the 35th minute while.
MARY MBEWE’s goal in the 41st minute took the team to the break on a three-nil score.
In the second half, the junior Copper Queens kept applying pressure on the opponents as a short from RUTH MUWOWO forced an own goal with IVY MAPKGATAU nailing the ball in her team’s net in the 65th minute to make it 4-0.
To round up the scores EDITH PHIRI and RUTH MUWOWO found the back of the net in the 78th and 83rd minute as the team scored six unanswered goals to make it three wins out of three games.
And speaking after the game, Zambia Under-20 Coach CHARLES HAALUBONO thanked the team for being a scoring powerhouse at the tournament.
HAALUBONO has credited the achievement to match fitness as most of the girls are active.
He says the team still needs to work on combinations among the areas that need attention, heading into the final game against Mozambique.
And Midfielder GIFT CHILWIZHI says the team has been doing well and plans on finishing on a stronger note by beating Mozambique in the final game.
