23.1bn released for Public service delivery

The Ministry of Finance released 23.1 billion Kwacha for public service delivery for the month of December 2024.
Of the 23.1 billion Kwacha, 12.7 billion Kwacha was spent on debt service and arrears, 3.9 billion Kwacha went to the public service wage bill, 2.4 billion Kwacha was allocated for the implementation of various developmental programs and general operations, and 1 billion Kwacha was designated for capital expenditure.
Finance and National Planning Minister Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane says the government remains committed to building a stronger economy and achieving the set macroeconomic targets.
Dr. Musokotwane urged public officials to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to implement budgeted programs and ensure that all sectors of the economy work together towards building resilience for inclusive growth and improved livelihoods in 2025 and beyond.
Dr. Musokotwane made these remarks while reviewing the December 2024 Budget expenditure report.
He mentioned that the Memorandums of Understanding signed with France and Saudi Arabia in December 2024 set the stage for the finalization of an additional 14 agreements with other creditor countries.
Dr. Musokotwane says the agreements, currently under negotiation, aim to ensure comprehensive debt treatment that supports Zambia’s economic recovery efforts in 2025 and beyond.
Meanwhile, Dr. Musokotwane disclosed that the Ministry of Finance and National Planning will host a Townhall Forum on January 22, 2025, to discuss the performance of the economy and budget in 2024, as well as the outlook and policy thrust for 2025.
