4 Hospital Employees Face Charges for Stealing COVID-19 Kits

Four employees at Lusaka’s Chipata Level One Hospital have been found with a case to answer in a matter where they are accused of stealing COVID-19 kits worth over 2.8 million Kwacha.
The suspects are Judith Dzekedzeke, 46, a biomedical technician; Malama Nkhata, 44, a driver; Langson Kampango, 54, a biomedical technician; and Hilton Kasanyika, 28, a station handman.
They are facing two counts of theft by a public servant and theft.
The four, being employed in the Ministry of Health in the stated capacities, stole COVID-19 kits worth over 2.8 million Kwacha, property belonging to the Zambian government.
When the matter came up for ruling on the case to answer, Lusaka Magistrate Anna Holland said the court was satisfied that the state had established a prima facie case against the accused.
Magistrate Holland has since set January 29, 2025, for the commencement of the defence.
