Forty pieces of gold, worth 58 million Kwacha, 200,000 United States dollars cash and a motor vehicle have been forfeited to the State.
Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate, DAVIES CHIBWILI made the order of forfeiture after convicting two Chinese nationals, ZHAO CHANGSONG and ZHAO YANJING, who attempted to smuggle the items into the country.
This was after the convicts were found guilty on one count of conveying of property suspected to have been stolen.
When the matter came up for plea, the state made an application to substitute the indictment from the earlier charge.
In mitigation lead defence lawyer MWANSA CHAMBAILA asked the court to exercise leniency.
