45 councils declared rating authorities
By Ruth Chayinda
The government has declared 45 more councils as rating authorities to enhance revenue generation capabilities and improve service delivery.
Local Government Minister Garry Nkombo says this is in addition to the 71 districts that already have rating authority.
Mr. Nkombo says this means that all 116 local authorities are now rating agencies.
He says this will enable local authorities to collect more revenue through levies from valuation rolls under the Rating Act.
Mr. Nkombo says this will enable the councils in the 45 districts that were lagging behind to independently prepare valuation rolls.
Mr. Nkombo says the ministry has since submitted the development for publication in the Government Gazette.
And Mr. Nkombo says the government has made a number of changes to the CDF Act, among them the CDF Committee structure and composition, and the appointment of members by provincial ministers.
