5,000 drought hit Zimba families to get aid from WFP

The World Food Programme -WFP- targets to support over 5,000 drought affected households in Zimba District in Southern Province.
WFP Country Director CISSY KABASUUGA says the programme has received one million US dollars from the African Development Bank.
Ms. KABASUUGA says the money is being used to buy maize, beans and cash for households to buy cooking oil.
Ms. KABASUUGA was speaking when her team and Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit paid a courtesy call on Zimba District Commissioner at his office.
And Zimba District Commissioner ROBSON MULAMFU has expressed gratitude for the ongoing support in the district.
Mr. MULAMFU says over 5,000 vulnerable people in the district are currently benefiting from the Social Cash Transfer programme.
And Resettlement Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Vice President, MAVIS NKOMESHYA has acknowledged that some districts have a number of households and individuals not benefiting from relief programmes .
Ms. NKOMESHYA has assured that the Government is working to address the issue.
