7 Die in Sinda Accident

Seven people have died in an accident that occurred in the Nthongole area in Sinda District on the Great East Road around 04:20 hours this morning.

The accident happened when the driver of a Ford Ranger, registered to Aliko Zambia Limited, lost control and careered off the road before hitting heaped blocks.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba, said the deceased were coming from Kitwe and were heading to Katete District for a funeral.

Mr. Mweemba said six people died on the spot, while the seventh victim died at St. Francis Mission Hospital.

He said a five-month-old baby boy is among the deceased.

Mr. Mweemba said the bodies of all the deceased persons have been deposited at St. Francis Mission Hospital awaiting postmortem.
