The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services says over 700,000 households have benefited from the drought emergency response implemented in 84 districts in the country.
The Ministry’s Department of Social Welfare Director, NELSON NYANGU says 32 districts not directly affected by the drought are also receiving support through price shock measures to help families improve their livelihoods.
Mr. NYANGU said the ministry is providing 800 kwacha per cycle to various households as part of the initiative.
Additionally, Mr. NYANGU has confirmed that the 1.2 million social cash transfer beneficiaries will receive an extra 200 Kwacha on top of their regular transfer so that they are cushioned from the drought.
He also noted that the sealing of the 2025 national budget for social security beneficiaries will increase from 1.3 million to 1.4 million by 2025.
