76 suspects arrested for rioting in Chingola

Police have formally charged and arrested the 76 suspects in connection with the rioting in Chingola on the Copperbelt.

The 76 suspects were apprehended on Thursday, April 3, 2025, following the unrest, in which illegal miners rioted and damaged various public and private property.

Police Spokesperson, RAE HAMOONGA says 49 suspects have been charged with the offence of Conduct Likely to Cause a Breach of Peace.

The remaining 27 suspects, including 2, who are currently admitted to Nchanga North General Hospital, have been jointly charged for Riotous Behaviour, Malicious Damage to Property as well as Breaking into a Building and Committing a Felony.

Mr HAMOONGA says the police strongly condemns all acts of lawlessness and any members of the public engaging in riotous or criminal conduct will be arrested.
