96-Year-Old Woman Burnt to Death by Granddaughters in Mambwe

A 96-year-old woman has been burnt to death by her granddaughters in Mambwe District, Eastern Province, on suspicion of practicing witchcraft.
Maria Nkhoma, of Senior Chief Nsefu’s area, was burnt inside her house.
The elderly woman was accused of being responsible for her three granddaughters’ failing marriages.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba, has confirmed the incident, saying it happened on the night of Monday this week.
Mr. Mweemba explained that one of the granddaughters, who lived with the deceased, initiated the attack and was later joined by the other two granddaughters.
He added that the three granddaughters have since been detained after admitting to acting together.
