34 Arrested for Illegal mining in Kasempa

Thirty-four foreign nationals have been arrested for illegal mining in Kasempa, North-Western province.
Among the foreign nationals, who were picked in Dengwe area are 33 Tanzanians and one Congolese.
Department of Immigration Spokesperson, NAMATI NSHINKA says the suspects were apprehended during a two-day joint operation with the police between Sunday, September 22 and Monday, September 23, 2024.
Mr NSHINKA has said another 4 suspects, who are claiming to be Zambians, were also arrested, bringing the total number of arrests to 38.
He says preliminary investigations have revealed that the Tanzanians and Congolese entered the country as ordinary visitors, but were found engaging in illegal mining activities.
