Govt respects human rights – KASUNE
By Sharon Siame
Justice Minister PRINCESS KASUNE says tremendous work has been done towards actualizing the Access to Information Act.
Ms. KASUNE says Government has also made progress in the review of the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation Act and the Independent Broadcasting Authority Act.
She says the Government has further guaranteed that journalists and other media workers carry out their work without fear of persecution.
Ms. KASUNE says that Government is committed to creating an environment where all human rights are protected and respected by everyone.
She said this in a speech read on her behalf by Ministry of Justice Permanent Secretary, MWENYA BWALYA during a Mid Term Review of Zambia’s Implementation of the 4th Cycle Universal Periodic Review Recommendations in Lusaka today.
She said the Universal Periodic Review is one of the mechanisms used to foster accountability on member states of the United Nations as well as monitor progress in the implementation of Human Rights.
And Open Spaces Zambia Chief of Party TELDAH MAWARIRE said that there is need to ensure that Zambia does not fall back on the recommendations it committed to.
