The Zambia Association of Gynecologists’ and Obstetricians -ZAGO- has called for accelerating the use of drugs that prevent severe bleeding after child birth.
ZAGO President SWEBBY MACHA says 60 percent of deaths from bleeding can be prevented by the use of such drugs.
Dr. MACHA has told ZNBC News in an interview in Kabwe that unlike oxytocin, drugs such Heat Stable Carbetocin do not require refrigeration.
He has explained that it is important to speed up the use of drugs countrywide especially now when the country is experiencing energy challenges.
And Vital Voices Zambia Lead Professor BLESSING CHISENGA says his organisation will intensify awareness on severe bleeding after child birth.
Severe bleeding after delivery referred to as Post-Partum Hemorrhage in medical terms is the leading cause of maternal deaths worldwide.
Some experts have been meeting in Kabwe to look at how they can accelerate interventions to curb severe bleeding after child birth.
