ACC to appeal acquittal of Kampyongo, Lusambo
The Anti-Corruption Commission -ACC- says it will appeal the acquittal of former Home Affairs Minister STEPHEN KAMPYONGO and former Lusaka Province Minister BOWMAN LUSAMBO.
ACC Head Corporate Communication, TIMOTHY MOONO says currently the ACC is studying the judgements and will soon launch the appeals in the interest of justice in the higher court .
He said this in a statement released to ZNBC News in Lusaka.
Mr. MOONO said the Commission feels that the Courts erred by acquitting the accused.
Last week, Mr. KAMPYONGO who is also Shiwangandu lawmaker was set free following a judgement delivered by Economic and Financial Crimes Court Principle Resident Magistrate SYLVIA MUNYINYA.
This was in a matter in which Mr. KAMPYONGO, together with his wife WANZIYA CHIRWA were facing 12 counts of possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.
However, Magistrate MUNYINYA found Ms. CHIRWA guilty on five counts and sentenced her to three years Simple Imprisonment for possession of properties suspected of being proceeds of crime.
In another development, Mr. LUSAMBO, was acquitted in a matter where he was facing three counts of attempting to interfere with witnesses.
