Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO has urged traditional leaders to identify places that are prone to floods in their chiefdoms for immediate action.
Mrs. NALUMANGO says according to the weather forecast, some areas will be hit by floods in the country, hence the need to prepare before the rains start.
She says government is ready to start moving people to upper lands because it does not want anyone to lose life and livestock during the rainy season.
The Vice President said this when she paid a courtesy call on chief NALUBAMBA before gracing the IKUBI LYA BANAMUNYATI traditional ceremony in Mbeza of Namwala District.
And speaking when she addressed 33 chiefs who attended the ceremony, the Vice President urged them to help monitor social nets such as Cash for Work to ensure intended people benefit.
She said government is considering enhancing the cash for work program depending on the response it gets from stakeholders.
And speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. NALUMANGO warned that child marriage is a crime and that anyone found wanting will be dealt with by the law.
And Chief NALUBAMBA has thanked government for the invaluable support it is providing in helping people in mitigating the severe challenges brought about by the drought.
Chief NALUBAMBA, who spoke through senior headman CRYSON MIYOBA has also asked the government to consider splitting Namwala into two districts to bring efficiency in advancing development.
And Southern Province Minister CREDO NANJUWA urged chiefs to work together to end succession wrangles in chiefdoms.
