Judges not scheming to down tools – CHANDA

Magistrates and Judges Association of Zambia President MWAMBA CHANDA has refuted allegations that she is mobilising judges countrywide to down tools following the suspension of three Constitutional Court Judges.

Judge CHANDA says the allegations are unfounded and shocking.

She was speaking in an interview with ZNBC News in LUSAKA.

Meanwhile, Judge CHANDA said President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA suspended the three Constitutional Court Judges pursuant to his Constitutional powers.

However commenting on the three Judges’ recourse to seek Judicial Review over their suspension, Judge CHANDA said the trio has acted within their constitutional rights.

Three Constitutional Court Judges PALANI MULONDA, MUGENI MULENGA and ANNIE SITALI were suspended by President HICHILEMA, few days ago pursuant to articles 143 and 144 of the Constitution.

This followed the recommendations by the Judicial Complaints Commission.
