Govt bemoans low revenue mobilisation
By Sharon Siame
Finance and National Planning Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE has bemoaned the low levels of revenue mobilisation in the country.
Dr. MUSOKOTWANE says he is not happy with the level of taxes being collected compared to the size of the economy.
He says the revenue being collected through taxes is still below the country’s potential and that there is need to put in place measures to increase revenue collection.
Dr. MUSOKOTWANE said this when he officiated at a post budget symposium held in Lusaka today.
And Dr. MUSOKOTWANE said that Government has proposed no adjustment to the Pay As You Earn threshold owing to insufficient funds.
He said in the last two to three years, government has been giving tax breaks on Pay As You Earn and has now decided to push more funds to those in informal employment through social cash transfer and cash for work.
