HH Commissions development of a $2bn mine expansion project

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has commissioned works for the 2 billion United States Dollars Lumwana Super pit expansion project in North Western Province.
The expansion will double the mine’s annual copper production from 120,000 tonnes to 240,000 per annum.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, President HICHILEMA said Government has created a favourable environment that has attracted investors to stay and invest in the mines.
President HICHILEMA said the global environment is favouring Zambia and that Copper is what the world wants as it is greener and cleaner to the environment.
He said any challenges coming with the expansion must be sorted as quickly as possible so that the locals can benefit from employment opportunities.
And, Barrick Lumwana Chief Executive Officer MARK BRISTOW said the expansion of the mine will increase production and create more jobs.
Meanwhile, Mines Minister PAUL KABUSWE said government is resuscitating the economy by revamping sectors such as mining.
At the same function North Western Province Minister ROBERT LIHEFU said the launch of the super pit is a clear indication of government’s commitment to creating better jobs for the people.
And, Kalumbila Member of Parliament NICHOLAS MUKUMBI praised the President for creating an environmental that allows investors to expand their business.
Earlier Chief MUMENA expressed happiness with governments policies in the mining sector saying these will help benefit the entire country.
