Footballer dies after being fouled
A footballer has died after being fouled by a goalkeeper during the annual Ibrahim Independence tournament in Petauke District, Eastern Province.
The incident occurred around 16:00 hours yesterday at Petauke Day Secondary School grounds
This was in a match between MATAYA and KAZOLWE Football Clubs.
Petauke District Amateur Football League Chairperson CHARLES BANDA has named the deceased as JAMES MWANZA, 23 who succumbed to injuries 30 minutes after being taken to Petauke District Hospital.
BANDA says MWANZA was knocked in the chest by the goalkeeper after missing the ball.
He said the deceased became unconscious before being taken to the hospital.
The two teams were competing for a quarter final spot.
