Judgement in Lungu’s eligibility case set for December 10
The Constitutional Court has set December 10, 2024 for judgment on former President EDGAR LUNGU’s eligibility case.
The case was opened and closed today after submissions from both parties.
The hearing was presided upon by a panel of Seven Constitutional Court Judges, among them the Court’s President MARGARET MUNALULA and her deputy ARNOLD SHILIMI.
This is in a matter where youth activist CHIZOMBE has sought the Constitutional Court’s determination on whether or not the former President was eligible to contest the 2021 General Elections.
Mr. CHIZOMBE also wants the court to determine Mr.LUNGU’s eligibility for future elections.
But Mr. LUNGU has submitted that the Constitutional Court has no jurisdiction to entertain the petition on his Presidential Election Eligibility arguing that the matter was already determined in the DANNY PULE versus the Attorney General Case of 2017.
In today’s proceedings the petitioner MICHELO CHIZOMBE was represented by his lawyer MICHAEL MOONO while MAKEBI ZULU and JONAS ZIMBA and State Counsel BONAVENTURE MUTALE are among defence lawyers.
The state was represented by Attorney General MULILO KABESHA and Solicitor General MARSHAL MUCHENDE along with some State Advocates.
