Gold Mine Accident: Search for trapped miners continues
The search has continued for trapped miners, following yesterday’s accident at LWIILI Gold Mine in Mumbwa district, Central province.
Ten miners were yesterday confirmed dead after their bodies were retrieved from the collapsed mine, while 6 were retrieved alive and later admitted to Nangoma Mission hospital.
Mumbwa District Commissioner, NAMUKOLO HAYUMBU has told ZNBC news by telephone that the search for more bodies has continued for the second day.
Ms HAYUMBU says that the continued search is because of the unknown number of miners who were trapped when part of the earth collapsed.
She however said of the 6 miners, who were retrieved alive and admitted to hospital, 4 have been discharged, while the remaining 2 are in stable condition.
Meanwhile, Central Province Police Commanding Officer, CHARITY CHANDA has also told ZNBC news by telephone that officers are still on the ground undertaking the search.
Yesterday, part of the earth collapsed and trapped an unknown number of people, who went to conduct mining activities at the Lwiili Open Pit Gold Mine.
