Fire claims two lives at Tokyo Way Market
Two people have been burnt to death in a fire that swept through some market stalls at Lusaka’s Tokyo Way market.
The fire that started in the early hours of today was put out by a team of fire officers from the Lusaka City Council -LCC- who were alerted by the public.
LCC Public Relations Manager CHOLA MWAMBA has confirmed the development to ZNBC News, saying the deceased have not yet been identified.
Ms MWAMBA said the source of the fire has not yet been established but preliminary findings indicate that the flames were coming from furniture, tyres and brooms kept inside the stalls.
A check by ZNBC News at the scene of the fire found some traders trying to salvage the remains of their furniture.
