Zambia reports first M-POX case

Zambia has recorded the first case of MPOX from a Tanzanian national in Chitambo district, Central Province.
Health Minister, ELIJAH MUCHIMA says a 32-year-old man was diagnosed with the viral disease after presenting symptoms at Mukando Health Post.
Dr. MUCHIMA says the patient who travelled from Tanzania to Zambia, reported symptoms which include muscle aches, fatigue and sore throat, followed by a rash on his face and body.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka today, Dr. MUCHIMA assured the public that health workers and facilities are equipped to handle MPOX cases.
Meanwhile, Dr. MUCHIMA has announced that the government has procured three million cholera vaccine doses from China.
And Emergency Preparedness and Response Director NATHAN KAPATA revealed that there has been a reported increase in diarrhoea cases across the country, with higher numbers in Kanyama, Chilanga and Kafue.
Meanwhile, World Health Organization Country Representative NATHAN BAKYAITA reaffirmed the cooperating partners commitment to supporting government’s efforts in responding to outbreaks.
